We Were Starved

In a world bathed in darkness,

You were a solemn ember

And like a moth to a flame,

I flew.

In a world void of sound

You were a burst of laugher,

And like the deaf awakened

I listened.

In a world starved of air

You were a fresh breath,

And like a drowning prisoner

I gulped.

I starved you, and drained you

Until you were of the world

Never to feel right.

Now we are without light, air, sound

Forever hollow and gnarled,

Starved of all insight.
